The world's best 'global' universities

Harvard University is the top global university in the world, reports Newsweek in its ranking of 100 universities 'that takes into account openness and diversity, as well as distinction in research.' Any such rankings have to be taken with a grain of salt, but it is no surprise that US schools have fared far better than those in any other part of the world. Canadian entries are University of Toronto (18), University of British Columbia (31), McGill University (42), University of Alberta (55) and University of Waterloo (84).

According to this report, Princeton is ranked # 1 ahead of Harvard.

There rankings are interesting to read but are that useful. Even the Maclean rankings of universities has gotten some scrutiny with several universities not recognizing the rankings. Although, Waterloo is not of them, especially since the Maclean rankings are very Waterloo friendly.

Most university students will be able to tell what are the top universities, these articles are just a chance to sell more magazines.
